If you want to succeed in business then you need to build your brand, and content marketing is one of the best ways to do this. I’ve been marketing my entire career, and these are five of my favorite tips that I give my clients:
Be Consistent
When you’re trying to build your brand, consistency is key. I know they say “content is king” and if that’s true, then consistency is queen. If you want your brand to make a big splash (and, honestly, who doesn’t) then you need to show up when your audience expects you to be there. If they don’t know when you’ll be there, they don’t know whether or not they should trust you.
Be Bold
When it comes time to build your brand, being bold doesn’t have to mean being edgy. It simply means taking an actual stance. The most forgettable brands are the ones that do nothing seriously. They exist. They’re there, but they really don’t have much to say. So, make sure you have something to say.
Stay on Brand
If you want to build your brand in the most effective way, then it’s important to stay on brand. Brands work because people know what they can expect from them. If you’re throwing things out there that seemingly don’t fit within the brand you’ve already established, then you might risk turning off your target audience.
When it comes down to it, staying on brand means building strong brand guidelines in the first place. That means establishing colors, fonts, and logos. But it also means establishing expected language, tone and messaging. This is especially important if you’re working with a team so everyone’s on the same page.
Focus on What You Love
Content marketing can get out of hand really fast. There are so many platforms out there that you could be on. Sound you run an Instagram page? Do you need a blog? Is podcasting the way to go?
Any of these are great strategies when it comes time to build your brand with content marketing, but trying to do all of these at the same time is a surefire way to throw you off your game and make it hard for you to stay consistent. So pick one and grow. You don’t need to have everything out there to make a genuine impact.
Don’t Be Afraid to Engage (Seriously, Engage)
Many brands put information out there—but so many of them struggle with engagement. Clients and customers don’t like to be talked at they like to be talked to. That means truly engaging with them on a level that both makes them feel and provides value.
That means that every time you’re on your favorite social media platform you’re not simply putting content out there but you’re also engaging with your audience. Throw out some comments, ask questions, reach out to people. You can build a business with one person, but you can’t grow it alone so engage!
