Quick Tips for Building Your Small Business Brand

small business brand

Your small business brand is critical to growing your little business into something much bigger than it is right now. But, if you’re not a branding expert or you don’t have years of marketing experience, that might seem like a daunting task.

Lucky for you, I have a tad bit of experience in this are (like two degrees and a corporate career), so I’ve got some easy tips and tricks that every small business brand can follow and work towards. While they’re only small steps, doing them will help establish and build your brand.

Create Strong Brand Assets

What are “brand assets” you might ask? When I’m referring to assets for your small business brand, what I’m talking about is your logo, name, standard wording and your overall branding guidelines.

These brand assets represent and identify your business to the world and represent you in the eyes of your audience. Your brand assets should be unique to your brand, and represent it in a way that resonates with both you and your audience.

While there are ways to create these assets yourself, unless you’re a professional designer or branding expert you should get them done professionally. But you can do that on a budget by using a service like Fiverr, Upwork or even an AI-based tool like Looka (I personally used Looka).

Find Your Brand Voice

Your brand voice is unique to your brand and resonates with your clients or customers. And it takes a while to find.

When it comes to your small business brand, finding and sticking to your brand’s voice is pinnacle. If your clientele is professionals, then your branding voice will likely have a professional undertone that might be more classic or proper. But if your brand is all about having fun, then comedy might be your key.

Whatever it is that both resonates with your customers and represents your brand is what you should stick with. You want to deliver consistency, while still achieving growth. Because as your brand becomes more established, it will also grow.

Create Amazing Products and Services

Customers and clients purchase your products and services due to the why behind your brand. But if you deliver a crappy product or service, it’s unlike that they’ll become loyal to your brand and share a positive experience.

This is why creating amazing products and services that deliver beyond what your customers expect is crucial to your small business brand. Create something that blows your audience out of the water, so they come back consistently and share their positive experience with their friend, family and anyone who will listen.

Deliver What You Promise

I love Elon Musk and SpaceX, Tesla, and basically anything that he’s ever created. But… he has a delivery problem. And that’s not just me saying it, Business Insider actually published an article called Elon Musk loves to make grandiose promises. Here are 8 he failed to deliver on.

Yet, people still love him and buy his products. But unfortunately, you and I aren’t Elon Musk, so we have to deliver on what we say we’re going to deliver on otherwise, we lose our audience.

Build trust with your audience by creating great products and always coming through, especially when you say you’re going to!
